Attaching files

Under the message box, + → Upload file attaches a file to the message you are writing. It shows up as a chip above the input; the × removes it again.

What it can read

Documents PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx)
Text .txt, .md, .csv, .tsv, .json, .yaml, .xml and friends
Images .png, .jpg, .gif, .webp — up to 5 MB each

Anything else is refused by name, so you know why it did not work instead of wondering.

What happens to it

The text is extracted when you pick the file, and travels with that one message. Images travel as images, so the model can actually look at them.

The file itself is not stored in kyte. The attachment belongs to the message, not to the workspace: it is read, used for that turn, and gone.

If the company should keep it, put it in Knowledge instead of attaching it. That is what Knowledge is for, and the agent can search it later.

What to do with an attachment

Ask for what you want: "Import these customers", "What did we agree in this contract?", "Turn this table into time entries for project Northwind".

For anything that writes, the agent shows you what it understood before it writes it — see when the agent asks first.

A whole folder instead

For more than a couple of files, or for work that should write files back, share a folder instead: sharing a folder with the agent.
