Extend an app you already have
Sometimes you do not need a new app, you need one more thing on an existing one: a field on the customer that only your industry has, a list of inspections that hangs off a project.
In Extend, say so:
"Customers need a field for their VAT number and one for the invoicing email."
"Projects should have a list of site visits: date, who was there, what was found."
How it is added
Beside what shipped, never inside it. Your extra fields live in your own table, linked to the record they belong to, and they appear on it as a section.
That separation is what makes an update safe. kyte's own tables change when kyte changes; yours do not have to be rescued each time.
What you get on the record
The section shows your fields on the customer or project, as if they had always been there — and it shows nothing at all on the records that have none.
Lists work the same way: site visits per project appear under the project, with their own + New.
Removing it
Ask for it to be removed. The extension goes; what shipped is untouched, because it was never modified in the first place.
The other direction
If what you need is really its own thing — a register, a log, a checklist with a life of its own — build it as your own app instead. An app that has to belong to something else is a section; one that stands on its own is an app.
