Sharing a folder with the agent
Under the message box: + → Share a folder…. Your system's folder picker opens, and the folder you choose is attached to this conversation. It appears as a chip above the input; the × removes it.
Choosing the folder in the OS dialog is the permission. There is no second confirmation, and kyte never browses your disk on its own.
What the agent can do there
Inside that folder, and nowhere else:
- look — list what is in it, search by name or by content
- read — text files and PDFs
- write — create files, change existing ones, rename, delete
- run a command — with your approval each time, unless you are in Auto
Paths cannot climb out. A request that points outside the folder is refused, not followed.
The agent is also told which folder it is: the path is in its instructions, along with a clear note to look before it answers rather than guess at file names.
What it is for
Work that produces files rather than records:
- "Read the offers in this folder and build a comparison table."
- "Rename these scans to
date — customer — subject." - "Write the report as
report.mdin here when you are done."
Cowork only. Extend never gets file tools — a process running in a folder is not something that should come out of a structure change.
When you are done
Remove the folder with the × on the chip. The conversation keeps its history; the agent simply no longer has hands in that folder.
Knowledge is something else
A shared folder is a workplace for a conversation. Knowledge is the company's library, searchable by everyone who may see it. If a document belongs to the company rather than to today's task, put it there.
