Version and updates
Which version am I running?
Bottom left, under the apps: Up to date · v0.1.1028. That is the version in front of you.
The number is not marketing. 0.1 is the release line; the last part counts the changes that have
gone into kyte. A higher number is a later build, always.
How updating works
kyte checks when it starts, and downloads a new version in the background by itself. Only when the download is finished does the line bottom left change to Update available, with an Install button beside it.
Press Install and kyte closes, swaps itself and comes back in the new version. Nothing is replaced under your hands while you are working, and an update you ignore simply waits.
You can also check by hand: click your account at the bottom left, then Check for updates.
Do I lose anything?
No. Your data lives beside the app, not inside it — see where your data lives. An update replaces the program; the workspace it opens stays exactly as it was.
Beta, and what that means for you
kyte is in beta, and updates come often — sometimes several a week. Two consequences worth knowing:
- The app reports errors to us automatically. If something goes wrong, we see it without you having to describe it. What is reported is the fault, not your data: prompts, customer names and table rows are stripped before anything leaves the machine.
- Screens move. A button may sit somewhere else after an update. If the documentation and the app disagree, the app is right and we owe you a correction — Send feedback at the bottom left is the fastest way to tell us.
Team servers update too
If your workspace uses a team server, the app and the server have to speak the same version of the data. When the app is older than the server, it says so instead of syncing half-understood rows: update the app to continue syncing. Local work keeps queuing and flows once you have updated.
